Unlike the fully analog 808, the TR-909 was a hybrid drum machine with analog kick, snare, hat, clap, and toms, and digitally sampled cymbals. This combination gave the TR-909 its unique flare, with a bright, insistent sound that set dance floors on fire. Roland painstakingly re-created the vintage analog and early-digital character of the TR.
